“The Witcher”: a new open world game built with Unreal Engine 5

CD Projekt is working on a new game, The Witcher. The Polish developer studio announced the new branch on Monday evening without giving any additional details or showing screenshots. So it is unclear when the game will be released.

What is known, on the other hand, is the engine: CD Projekt first uses Epic Games’ Unreal Engine when developing the new “The Witcher” game. The fifth version of the famous engine is used in the new “The Witcher” branch. So far, RPGs in the “The Witcher” series have been developed using CD Projekt’s RedEngine. CD Projekt’s latest work “Cyberpunk 2077” is built in RedEngine 4.

With the new “The Witcher” CD Projekt wants to work closely with developer Unreal Epic Games: we are talking about a “technology partnership” that should span over several years. CD Projekt should have active support from Epic Games to adapt the engine for open world experiences – one of the few indications of possible content for the upcoming “Witcher” game.

The trailer indicates that the new “Witcher” branch should also become an RPG with an open game world. Parts 1 to 3 were already role-playing games, the spin-off arcade game “Gwent” was out of line just like the mobile game “The Witcher: Monster Slayer”. There is no further information about the next branch in the first message.

It’s in the shape of a cat – so the new sequel probably won’t revolve around the former main character Geralt, who belongs to the school of werewolf magic. CD Projekt previously announced his desire to bid farewell to Geralt. The Witcher 3 is one of the most successful and best RPG games of the last decade. CD Projekt is currently preparing the game for Xbox Series X and PS5. The revised version is scheduled to appear in 2022 and will also be available on PC.

In the deal with Epic Games, CD Projekt appears to be limited to technology: there are no plans to launch a new “The Witcher” branch in just one store, the official “The Witcher” Twitter account wrote. Accordingly, the new game “The Witcher” is neither Epic nor GOG exclusive.
