The British family was on their way to the UK to visit relatives and friends for the first time since the outbreak of the pandemic. But the long-awaited vacation turned out to be not so happy when the family made a terrible discovery.
A few hours into the flight, family members tried to wake the sleeping mother, but they were unsuccessful. Turns out she died in her sleep Watchman reports.
“This loss is unimaginable. Helen was a devoted wife and mother. She was the glue that held her family together,” a family friend wrote in a post on a fundraising page that began in memory of the woman.
The collection has so far brought in more than 260,000 crowns, which will go to fund the woman’s funeral and other family expenses.
“For the remaining eight hours of the flight, Helen was lying in a breathless sleep in her seat. Although this was very shocking to the family, they all had time to tell her what they wanted to say.”
When the plane later landed in Germany, the family continued on to the UK, while the woman’s body was left in Frankfurt.
A British Foreign Office spokesman said: “We are supporting the family of a British woman who died on a flight to Frankfurt and are in contact with local authorities.”
