CAS bans Uwes Vanderich for seven months

The German Football Association (DFB) Sports Tribunal has issued a strict ruling against Clemens Vanderich of second division FC Erzberg Oe. The 30-year-old has been banned for seven months, but can appeal to the Federal Court of the German Football Association within a week.

“The court had no doubts about the portrayal of assistant referee Roman Potemkin, who testified that the player spat in the right eye in the 89th minute of the second-tier match against FC Ingolstadt on October 22, 2021, which Vanderich himself denies,” he said in a letter from the DFB . The sequence of movements in the scene supports the depiction of Potemkin.

“Unfortunately, that was a sobering experience. The CAS presumed the assault and imposed a seven-month suspension, with the sentence ranging from six months to two years. I do not agree in any way with the outcome,” Aues board member and attorney Kay Werner said. Totally unacceptable and one would “exhaust the legal remedies available to us”.

Vanderich vehemently denied that he had intentionally spit on the aide. And the midfielder was already absent from the 1-1 draw in Hannover. Werner had announced in “Tag24”: “If the penalty is higher than the suspension that Clemens Vanderich made against Hanover, we will consider going to the Federal Court of the German Football Association or, if necessary, to an ordinary court.” Federal Supreme Court.
