Second division football team Hamburger SV has released Toni Listner with immediate effect. The defender is no longer allowed to participate in training or matches and must search for a new club.

HSV said on Wednesday that the 31-year-old had been unable to make friends with the role he was meant to play. So it is not taken into account for additional planning of the season. In the discussions, Leistner once again clearly stated his desire for more playing time, after which it was decided that “it was better to release him to search the club for the focus and energy of the team and the whole club for the next match. The match at 1. FC Heidenheim and the referee for other tasks” .

Worried about a supposed Instagram post

And on Monday evening, an alleged entry of the central defender on Instagram caused unrest. In an excerpt from a conversation with a fan, Listner is said to have complained about HSV’s philosophy and coach Tim Walter. But the defense attorney confirmed that the entry was forged. However, HSV appears to have suspicions and is now acting.

In the past few days there have been frequent reports of quarrels between Listner and Walter. The veteran lost his usual spot under the new coach and was not used in the first four days of matches or in the DFB Cup. This is a hot topic of discussion in the fan scene.

Contract with HSV until June 2022

Last summer, Leistner moved to the Hanseatic League on a free transfer from English second-tier team Queens Park Rangers. The Dresden native played 19 matches for Hamburg and scored one goal. In Hamburg, Listner’s contract is still valid until June 2022.
