Italian Cup: Milan struggles to reach the quarter-finals

Milan did not live up to their role as favorites in the Coppa Italia round of 16 against ailing Genoa with great effort and thanks to a late dream goal. Without his suspended star Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Milan won 3-1 (1-1, 0-1) after extra time at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium on Thursday night, thus placing them in the top eight in the Italian Football Cup.

Top scorer Olivier Giroud (74) and two clowns Raphael Liao scored with a surprise strike from the left edge of the penalty area (102) and Alexis Sailemakers (113th) to win the cup five times, and Leo Ostegaard trained the outside player at the hands of the former Milan. World striker Andriy Shevchenko took the lead early (17). B

In winning the Cup five times, 20-year-old Daniel Maldini made his debut in the starting line-up in the cup match against Genoa, just like his father Paolo 37 years ago.

In a wild game with a total of three expulsions, AC Fiorentina had won by 5-2 (2-2, 1-1) after extra time in last year’s semi-final at SSC Napoli. Napoli equalized with a goal in the fifth minute of extra time. In extra time, newly signed Krzystof Piatek from Hertha BSC made the initial decision on his debut with Fiorentina’s fourth goal (108).

In the quarter-finals on February 9, Milan will meet the winner of the match between Lazio Roma and Udinese Calcio, which will be played next Tuesday (5.30 pm / DAZN).
