Orange and Nokia together for the coming years. 3G will be closed in Poland soon

Nokia and Orange Polska will work together for a long time to expand the radio network in Poland. The contract has just been extended for another 10 years. By the way, we got acquainted with the outlines of Orange’s further plans in northern Poland.

Nokia and Orange Polska’s contract has been extended several years before it expires. This is not a surprise, since earlier Nokia announced the continuation of cooperation with Orange in France and Spain. After extand The agreement between Orange Polska and Nokia is valid until 2036. Everything is going in the right direction. The new contract will cover half of the Orange Polska network in the north of the country. There, Nokia and Orange will upgrade the existing infrastructure and improve the availability and capabilities of the 5G network. There is no doubt that this work is in great demand.

Will Orange turn off 3G by 2025?

One of the tasks that Nokia has to do is to turn off the 3G network maintained by Orange. The Finnish company will also provide infrastructure solutions that will allow the reuse of the released frequencies to improve the coverage and capacity of Orange’s 4G network. This is part of the comprehensive modernization plan of Orange’s infrastructure, which will be implemented until 2025. This indicates that Orange intends to move away from the 3G standard by 2025.

Nokia AirScale BaseStation

Nokia has announced that it will supply Poland with energy-efficient devices from the AirScale group. It is a set of water-cooling devices with heat recovery, energy-saving chips and solar panels. These devices were presented at MWC 2019 and the portfolio is growing. Of course, the Orange network will include AirScale base stations, like the one shown in the graphic above, as well as 5G Massive MIMO antennas for indoor and outdoor applications. The collection will be supplemented by individual RAN base stations that allow you to operate 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G networks simultaneously.

Nokia will use the C band.

Nokia will also provide the equipment to manage the so-called C-band, that is, frequencies between 3.4 and 3.8 GHz. This range is not yet available in Poland – we are still waiting for the launch of a new auction that will allow operators to allocate blocks. It will finally come to an end and it will be possible to launch the 5G network on new frequencies, which will significantly increase the capacity of the 5G network.

Of course, Nokia will also provide technical support in launching and maintaining the infrastructure used by Orange Polska.

It is worth noting that at the end of March, T-Mobile also extended its contract with Nokia for another 10 years.
