“A demon walks among us.”
This is how Suffolk County Sheriff Rodney Harrison described the now accused Rex Hermann after his arrest.
59-year-old Rex Hoermann is suspected of being the serial killer who has been on the run from Long Island for several years. According to the attorney general, he has allegedly murdered at least three of the eleven women found on Gligo State beaches since 2010.
– a predator who destroyed families. “Without our investigators, he would still be walking the streets today,” Police Chief Rodney Harrison said on Friday.
But that’s exactly what he did a year ago.
Rex Hermann was captured on Google Street View in June 2022 when he was chatting with an unknown woman on the street. It’s reports New York Post.
The photos were taken at the intersection of East 36th St and 5th Avenue, near architectural office Heuermann in Manhattan.
Killed at Gligo Beach
Human remains: The case was opened in 2010 after four bodies of the women were found in a desolate location near Gligo Beach.
File of the offender: In 2011, the perpetrator was profiled in The New York Times. She added that the serial killer was between 25 and 40 years old. He is well educated and eloquent.
Victims: Most of the victims work as prostitutes. Rex Heuermann’s pro group seems to have targeted her.
DNA traces on a pizza box
Suspicions against Heuermann, who worked as an architect by day, arose in March 2022 when police managed to link him to a Chevrolet Avalanche pickup, which was reportedly seen when one of the victims disappeared in 2010.
Heuermann, who denies criminal charges, was arrested after police DNA tested a piece of pizza he had thrown into the trash. His DNA matched hair from one of the crime scenes.
The so far unsolved murders have attracted a lot of attention and formed, among other things, the basis for the documentary “Lost Girls”.
