Corgis: The Queen’s favorite dog breed is on the rise again in Great Britain
London.Just in time to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the throne of Queen Elizabeth II (96), interest in the Queen’s favorite dog breed is once again growing in the UK: the Pembroke Welch Corgi. The Queen was known for her love of the Welsh Sheepdog, and self-bred Corgis for decades.

The Kennel Club has blamed the Netflix series “The Crown” for the recent surge. The series about the life of the king has brought the race back into the public consciousness. TKC spokesperson Bill Lambert expressed his delight at the Welch Corgis’ return to popularity “in such an important year for the Queen”. The Crown series has been a huge boost in recent years. But the Queen originally played a major role in promoting corgis to the public. What a wonderful testament to her 70th year on the throne, to see her beloved bloodline regain popularity,” Lambert said.

But then interest decreased significantly – in 2014 only 274 puppies were registered. Among other things, experts blame the fact that there are hardly any professional breeders and hobby breeders that focus on simpler breeds. With the onset of the “crown” in 2018, the number of corgi dogs increased again.
