Kenyan Elliott Kipsoke won the Sapporo Marathon and won the Olympic gold medal for the second time in a row. He crossed the royal distance in 2: 08.38. Best Poles, Adam Noviki, 38th – 2: 17.19.
The silver medal was won by Abid Nagi of the Netherlands (2: 09.58) and the bronze medal was won by Bashir Abdi of Belgium (2: 10.00).

Kipsoke also excelled at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Kenyan world record holder – 2: 01.39. He was also the first man to finish the race in less than two hours – he did it in Vienna in 2019, where he scored 1:59:40, but under special conditions, this is not an official world record.
Arkadiusz Gardzielewski finished 63rd – 2: 22.50, and Marcin Sabovsky did not finish the race.
