(CNN Spanish) – “No, I’m your father.” What did you think when you read this sentence? You don’t have to have thought of a particular character. But we are sure that the first thing that comes to your mind is Star Wars.
If you were one of the people who initially thought of Darth Vader and then Star Wars, then you are definitely geek From “Star Wars” or just an expert in popular culture. Did not matter. For all of them, a very special date will arrive: Star Wars Day (or Star Wars Day).
This day has gained popularity over the years, to the point that events are held in different parts of the world to celebrate the world you created George Lucas.
How was Star Wars Day born?
There has never been a better day than May 4 to celebrate, as the anniversary mantra is a play on the words that unite history and one of the classic Star Wars phrases:
- “May the force be with you” (a famous phrase of Jedis from the first movie of the saga is called Star Wars IV: A New HopeAnd From 1977; In Spanish, it means “May the strength be with you.”)
- “I hope the fourth is with you” (which in Spanish says “4 I hope it is with you”)
How these two sentences were combined to come up with what is now Star Wars Day? In fact, the story contains certain gaps (as all legends do), but we can say that its origin was in the United Kingdom.
By date on the origin of history (which Lucasfilm endorsed), the phrase was first used on May 4, 1979, the day Margaret Thatcher was inaugurated as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
Apparently, the Conservative Party published an advertisement in the London Evening News that read: “May the fourth be with you, Maggie. Congratulations,” or in English “May the fourth be with you, Maggie. Congratulations.”
Events around the world
Long after that, the date was set in the age of social media (it became a huge event every year) and eventually expanded into real life with events in Toronto. Now, there are events celebrating this day all over the world.
There are online and in-store deals for Star Wars merchandise and games; The franchise has abundant food and events where fans are encouraged to dress up, play trivia, or just enjoy their favorite movie franchise.
