Disney Wish set sail for the first time

Construction began 10 months ago on Disney Cruise Line’s newest cruise ship, Disney Wish, and set sail for the first time last Friday, February 11.

It took about five hours and 29 million gallons of water from the Ems River to flood the pier, causing the cruise ship to sail with up to three feet of clearance on each side.

Disney Wish will make its maiden voyage on July 14 from Port Canaveral, Florida, and is the first of three new Disney Cruise Line ships to be built by 2025.

Each will run on LNG and will weigh approximately 144,000 gross tons.

Among the attractions that stand out is the iconic sculpture of Rapunzel and her friend Pascal.

In addition, one of three iconic red fireplaces will house a two-story suite, the first of its kind. It will have approximately 2,000 square feet of double-height ocean views.

On all Disney Cruise Line ships, the exterior design is inspired by classic ocean liners and accented with iconic Mickey Mouse colors.

Disney Wish will sail three- and four-night itineraries to Nassau, the Bahamas and Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay, from Port Canaveral, Florida, just one hour from the Walt Disney World Resort.
